Getting laid-off from my last job was the best thing for my career, and I will explain why.
Whether you have been fired or recently a victim of huge layoffs, you still may feel a wave of emotions including guilt or fear of what is next.

Cheers to Life after Job Loss
Over my working career for employers, I cannot count the number of times I have been laid off or fired.
At first, I thought it was my work performance, yet it took me several years to accept the fact that employers can choose to fire or lay off with any excuse as the Employment Standard Act is written in favour of the employer.
The truth is getting laid-off from my last job was the best thing for my career.
Even though I applied to every agency in the city with ten years of experience working as an employment counselor, I did not meet the hidden and bias requirements of being a male, nor of speaking another language.
Undaunted, I conducted informational meetings with private companies who offered career services; they liked me and my experience and offered casual part-time work.
It was during my journey to find new employment that many people suggested “Why not open your own business?”
Happenstance takes you in a different direction, so I asked my husband who was a business owner for many years, his response was go for it.
Now thirteen years later, I am still in business regardless of the many challenges, I am thankful for my clients who trusted me to assist them in their career transition journeys.
Going through a job loss can be difficult yet maybe it is the first time in your life when you can control your destiny and plan your career path.
