When you are looking for a new job you need to organize the jobs you have applied to and the easiest way to do this is to utilize your email.
- Folders – Create folders and save your applications in the folders.
- You can create as many folders as you want. For example, you may have a folder for each different online job boards you are registered with or by selected companies or by job titles.
- Copy and send the job posting to yourself to review it and decide if you are interested in applying to the job alert.
- Other types of folders in your email may include: months, favorite websites, company research or articles, job postings, references, and follow-up.
- Folders will help you be organized and you can easily locate your letter of application when you get called in for an interview.
- To Do Lists – Writing down your weekly goals
- Keep track of what you want to accomplish weekly will help you stay focused.
- Record all your activities with due dates, time frames and mark them completed to see your results of your activities.
3) Calendars – Using your calendar will help you manage your time better.
- Block off times to do your job search, write applications and send off your resumes, and family or personal time.
- Mark down when you have informational meetings, networking events and interviews.
- Use different colours for different events in one area and link your calendar to your phone.
Get yourself organized, set your goals and manage your time by using the S.M. A. R. T. method and move yourself in a positive direction with your career. Take ownership of your career progression. The summer is a great time to start planning the next step in your career direction and opportunities.
