This past week I heard that term “ghosting” mentioned twice. Once by a Human Resource manager and a young lady who is organizing soccer teams. I was shocked to learn that this behaviour is becoming quite common that people make commitments to attend a meeting or an interview then never show up or return any messages.
To me these people are not responsible and where does this come from. Some people have told me it is a behaviour amongst millennials however the young people I have worked with they have not shown this kind of behaviour. If this behaviour is associated with young people, I wonder what their parents told them about responsibility? As business owners and interviewers, I would recommend that you include this in your interview process by directing asking to the applicant have they ever been involved with #ghosting activity? Also consider asking job applicants how they would do they define #responsibility and how would they be #accountable to the company?
