Rite Careers is pleased to announce that our founder, Mary Whitaker, has been awarded the Rise Asset Development “Female Entrepreneur of the Year” sponsored by Shoppers.
With her educational background in psychology (BA), a social Service Worker Diploma, and certification as a Career Strategist, Mary works with her clients to suggest career paths and can administer career testing to explain the results to her clients.
After Mary joined Rite Careers, she mastered writing creative and concise resumes that are viewed by many HR managers as heaving exceptional formatting and readability. Mary focuses on an individual’s skills when she meets with a client for their first in-depth conversation to learn what they have done, what their strengths are, and where they want to go in their career progression. Mary has written over 190 types of professional resumes for different job titles from entry level to mid-management with a 94% success rate for being invited to interviews and getting job offers. One of her clients received a interview invitation 39 minutes after he applied to a job posting.
As an active member on LinkedIn, Mary stresses the importance of having a proper and updated LinkedIn profile as a valuable job search tool. She helps clients write relevant profiles and instructs them on how to use LinkedIn to find connections and job leads and to perform company research.
In preparing for mock interviews, Mary takes the extra time to pose 50 questions to the applicant with practice on traditional, behavioral and competency based questions for specific interviews. She encourages her clients to tape record the interview sessions, which include the question, the client’s answer, and Mary’s feedback to improve the answer.
Mary was recognized for her personal dedication to the continued success of Rite Careers by learning how to use social media effectively, manager her website, and for her commitment to her clients’ achievements in their career transitions.
Earlier this May, at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, Rise Asset Development hosted a ceremony for the recipients of the Dr. Paul E. Garfinkel Awards for Entrepreneurial Achievement. Mary was presented her award as “Female Entrepreneur of the Year” from the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Public Affairs with the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), Mr. Michel Bergeron. Congratulations to the other winners – Dareen Leu, EnterpRISER of the Year, Julie Riemersma, RISE-ing Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Bernard Lewis for the Rise Volunteer Honourable Michel H. Wilson Award.
